Understanding Your Custom Results Dashboard

Learn how to navigate and read each tab of your Custom Results Dashboard, from headline highlights and topic analysis to heatmaps, driver analysis and historical trends.

⚠️ Who is this article for? This guide is for users whose organisation has a Custom Results Dashboard. You can recognise one by the tabs marked with a ✦ sparkle icon, such as Highlights, Topic Analysis, Heatmap, High Impact Driver Analysis and Trends. If your dashboard only shows Overview, Responses, Hotspots, Actions or Response Rate, you are using the standard Survey Dashboard. See How to navigate the survey dashboard overview.

The Custom Results Dashboard is built specifically for your organisation. It includes the standard Responses and Response Rate tabs, plus a set of custom tabs designed around the indices, dimensions and segments that matter most to your organisation. The exact widgets, indices and segment names on your dashboard are configured for you, so they may differ slightly from the examples in this article.

Getting Around the Dashboard

The controls at the top of the dashboard apply to every tab:

  • Dashboard selector: switch between the dashboards available to you.
  • Survey selector: choose the survey wave (e.g. 2026) you want to view.
  • Historical tag: appears when the selected survey is historical (imported) data.
  • Viewing: shows the data you have access to, for example All respondent data. This follows your dashboard access level. See Understanding your dashboard access level.
  • Language selector (🌐): switch between your language and English.
  • Filters: click Select filters to narrow results to a specific group, such as a department or location. Filter: None selected means you are viewing all data you have access to.

💡 Confidentiality threshold: As on the standard dashboard, results are hidden for any group with too few responses to protect respondent confidentiality. Some widgets have their own minimum. For example, the Engagement and Attrition Risk Matrix only shows results when there are 5 or more responses.

Dashboard Tabs at a Glance

Tab What it answers
Responses How did each question score? (standard tab)

✦ Highlights What’s the big picture?
✦ Participation Who took part?
✦ Topic Analysis What themes come up in open-ended comments?
✦ Heatmap Which segments score higher or lower than the organisation?
✦ High Impact Driver Analysis Which questions are most linked to engagement?
✦ Open-ended Responses What exactly did employees write?
✦ Trends How have scores changed over time?

Responses and Response Rate (Standard Tabs)

These two tabs work the same way as on the standard Survey Dashboard.

  • Responses: use the Score type toggle (Favourability or Mean) and the sub-tabs Scored questions, Open-ended and Others. See How to view and analyse your survey responses.
  • Response Rate: see How to use the Response Rate tab in your survey dashboard.

✦ Highlights

The Highlights tab gives you the big picture, showing how your key indices perform and how they relate to employee engagement.

  • Employee Engagement & Its High Impact Drivers: a donut chart shows your overall engagement score as a % favourable. Below it, you can see the change compared with previous surveys and the benchmark. Next to it, High Impact Drivers lists the questions most strongly linked to engagement.
  • Leading Indicators of Engagement: donut charts for the indices your organisation tracks as early signals of future engagement, each with its change versus past surveys and benchmark.
  • Areas We Have Done Well In: your top 3 dimensions (from rating questions) and top 3 topics (from open-ended comments).
  • Areas That Require Improvement: your bottom 3 dimensions and bottom 3 topics.
  • Manager Effectiveness and Employee Engagement: a scatter chart that plots each unit by its Manager Effectiveness score (horizontal) and Employee Engagement score (vertical). Use Breakdown by to choose the unit level. Tick Scale by unit size to size dots by headcount, and Direction of change to show how each unit has moved since the last survey: Improving, Declining, Diverging, Inconsistent or Flat.
  • Engagement and Attrition Risk Matrix: shows engagement and attrition risk across segments. Use Breakdown by to change the segment.

💡 Reading the change indicators: ▲ green = higher than the comparison, ▼ red = lower, 0 = no change, — = no comparison data available.

⚠️ Warnings banner: If you see a message like “4 warning(s) — some widgets may show incomplete data,” some widgets don’t have enough data to display fully, often because of the confidentiality threshold or missing comparison data. The rest of the tab is still accurate.

✦ Participation

[ADD: short description of the Participation tab, its widgets and how to read them.]

✦ Topic Analysis

The Topic Analysis tab shows what employees are saying in their own words, grouped into themes.

  • Topic Analysis (Open-Ended): for each open-ended question, a bar chart shows the % of responses that mention each topic, sorted from most to least mentioned.
  • Topic Trends (Open-Ended): for each open-ended question, a chart ranks the top 5 topics (1st to 5th) across survey waves, so you can see which themes are rising or falling in priority. The number next to each topic is the count of responses tagged with it.

💡 Why don’t the percentages add up to 100%? A single response can be tagged to more than one topic. For example, a comment about pay and teamwork counts towards both Compensation and Benefits and Collaboration.

✦ Heatmap

The Heatmap tab shows where segments differ from the organisation’s overall result, helping you spot groups that are raising or lowering the average.

  • Heatmap by Demographic Groups: compares dimension scores across a demographic attribute, such as country. Choose the attribute with Breakdown by, and use the ‹ › arrows to scroll through more segments.
  • Heatmap by Organisational Levels: compares dimension scores across units at the level you choose in Breakdown by (e.g. Level 2 units).

The first column shows the organisation-wide score, and the Response Counts row shows how many people responded in each segment. Click the ▸ arrow next to a dimension to expand it into its individual questions.

💡 Reading the colours: darker green cells show stronger scores, and orange cells show weaker scores that may need attention. Always check the Response Counts row: a large segment with a low score affects more employees than a small one. [CONFIRM: exact colour thresholds, if you want to state them]

✦ High Impact Driver Analysis

This tab shows the top 5 questions most strongly linked to the index or dimension you select. These are the areas where improvement is most likely to lift the overall result.

Use the Index/Dimension dropdown to choose what to analyse (e.g. Employee Engagement). For each question, you’ll see:

  • Impact: how strongly the question is linked to the selected index (e.g. HIGH)
  • Average: the mean score on your survey’s scale
  • Distribution: green = favourable, yellow = neutral, orange = unfavourable
  • Favourable score: for the current survey
  • Previous survey scores and Benchmark: change compared with each

💡 Where to act first: Look for questions with high impact but a low or declining score. These are your strongest opportunities for action.

⚠️ “No data — No questions were found to have a positive correlation with this index/dimension”: This means no question met the threshold to count as a driver for that index, often because of limited data. It is not an error.

✦ Open-ended Responses

This tab shows the individual comments employees wrote for each open-ended question, which are the comments behind the Topic Analysis themes. Responses are anonymous.

  • Comments written in other languages show the original text with an English translation underneath.
  • Use Rows per page and the page numbers at the bottom to browse through all responses.

✦ Trends

The Trends tab shows how your scores have changed over time.

  • Historical Trend: a table listing every dimension and index with its average, distribution, current favourable score, and change compared with previous surveys and the benchmark. Click ▸ to expand a dimension into its questions.
  • Historical Trend by Segment: bar charts showing the favourable score for each segment across survey waves. Choose what to view with Index/Dimension, Breakdown by and Segments.

💡 Why do some segments show fewer bars? A segment only shows bars for the survey waves where it had results. New segments, or segments below the confidentiality threshold in a past wave, will show fewer bars.

Downloading Your Results

Each tab has a Download Results button at the top right. Downloads are available to admin users only, and they follow your current filters and access level.

⚠️ Not an admin? If you are a Unit Head or another non-admin role and need a copy of the results, contact your Entity Admin or support@engagerocket.co.

Something Not Working?

A widget shows “No data.”

  • Likely cause: The group doesn’t meet the minimum number of responses for that widget, or there isn’t enough comparison data.
  • Action: This is by design to protect confidentiality. Try removing filters or choosing a broader breakdown. If you think data is missing, contact support@engagerocket.co.

I see a warning that some widgets may show incomplete data.

  • Likely cause: One or more widgets don’t have enough data to display fully.
  • Action: The rest of the tab is still accurate. If a widget you rely on stays incomplete, contact support@engagerocket.co.

I can’t see the Download Results button.

  • Likely cause: Downloads are available to admin users only.
  • Action: Contact your Entity Admin or support@engagerocket.co.

I can only see my own unit’s data.

  • Likely cause: Your access level is set to view your own team’s data.
  • Action: Ask your Entity Admin to review your access. See Understanding your dashboard access level.

A tab, index or widget I expected is missing, or I’d like something changed.

  • Likely cause: Your Custom Results Dashboard is configured specifically for your organisation.
  • Action: Contact support@engagerocket.co, and our team will help you.
