My survey won't load or submit

When a survey page opens but freezes, won't display questions, or won't let you submit your answers, here's how to fix it.

⚠️ Who is this article for? This guide is for survey respondents who can access a survey but are experiencing technical problems completing or submitting it. If you can't access the survey link at all, see our article on survey links not working.

Survey loading and submission issues are usually caused by browser compatibility, network problems, or cache buildup. Most can be resolved with simple troubleshooting steps.

💡 Where to start: Refresh the page and wait for it to fully load. If the survey still freezes or won't submit, try clearing your browser cache or opening the survey in a different browser.

Refresh and reload the survey

The survey page may not have fully loaded on your first attempt. Refresh or reload the page in your browser and wait a few seconds for all questions to appear. Don't close the page if it seems slow—give it time to fully load before assuming there's a problem.

Clear your browser cache and cookies

Cached data can prevent surveys from loading properly or can cause submission problems. Clear your cache and cookies, then reload the survey. This forces your browser to download the latest version of the survey page.

Try a different browser

Different browsers handle surveys differently. If the survey freezes or won't submit in one browser, try opening it in a different one (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge). This helps identify whether the problem is browser-specific.

Disable browser extensions

Browser extensions like ad blockers, password managers, or security tools can sometimes interfere with survey functionality. Try disabling all extensions temporarily and reloading the survey. If it works, you may need to whitelist the survey page in your extension settings.

Check your internet connection

A slow or unstable internet connection can cause surveys to freeze or fail to submit. Make sure you have a stable connection. If you're on WiFi, try switching to a wired connection or moving closer to your router. If using mobile data, try connecting to WiFi instead.

Make sure all questions are answered

Some surveys require all questions to be answered before submission. If you see an error message, check that you've answered every question on the page. Some questions may be required even if they don't appear to be marked as such.

Save your answers and try again later

If the survey continues to freeze or won't submit, close it and try again in a few minutes or hours. Sometimes temporary server issues cause problems. Your survey should retain your answers if you return to the same survey link.

Something not working?

The survey page loads but some questions don't appear.

  • Likely cause: The page didn't fully load, or your browser is not rendering all page elements correctly.
  • Action: Refresh the page and wait at least 10 seconds for all questions to appear. If questions are still missing, try clearing your cache and reloading, or try a different browser.

The survey freezes or becomes unresponsive.

  • Likely cause: Your browser may not be compatible with the survey, your connection may be unstable, or browser extensions may be interfering.
  • Action: Refresh the page. If it freezes again, close it and try opening the survey in a different browser. Check that your internet connection is stable. If the problem persists, try disabling browser extensions and reloading.

I get an error message when I try to submit my answers.

  • Likely cause: You may have left required questions unanswered, or there may be a technical issue preventing submission.
  • Action: Review the error message carefully. If it says fields are required, make sure you've answered all questions marked as required. If the message is unclear or persists after answering all questions, take a screenshot of the error and reach out to us at support@engagerocket.co.

The submit button doesn't respond when I click it.

  • Likely cause: The survey may still be loading, JavaScript may be disabled, or there may be a technical issue.
  • Action: Wait a few seconds—the page may still be processing. Try clicking the submit button again. If it still doesn't work, refresh the page and check that JavaScript is enabled in your browser settings. If the problem continues, try a different browser.

I see a timeout message.

  • Likely cause: You may have had the survey page open for too long without activity, or your connection may have been interrupted.
  • Action: The survey session may have expired. Close the page and request a fresh survey link from your HR team or the person who sent it to you. Make sure to complete the survey in one sitting without long breaks.

The survey shows a blank page or only shows loading.

  • Likely cause: The page isn't loading fully due to network issues, browser problems, or server-side issues.
  • Action: Refresh the page and wait up to 30 seconds for it to load. If it remains blank, try a different browser or device. Check that your internet connection is stable. If the problem persists, reach out to us at support@engagerocket.co with details about what you see.

I answered the survey but I'm not sure if it submitted successfully.

  • Likely cause: You may not have clicked the submit button, or the submission may have failed silently.
  • Action: After clicking submit, wait for a confirmation message or redirect. Most surveys show a thank you page or confirmation message. If you don't see one, return to your email to check if there's a link showing your submission status, or reach out to us at support@engagerocket.co to confirm your responses were received.
