How do I know what permissions I have?

A quick guide to understanding your current access level in EngageRocket and what it means for what you can see and do.

EngageRocket does not have a single page that lists all your permissions in one place. Instead, you can infer your access level from what you can see and do in the platform. This article helps you work it out.

What your navigation tells you

The tabs and sections visible in your navigation are the clearest signal of your permission level:

  1. You can see Survey Projects, Employees, and Entity Permissions: You likely have full admin-level access. You can manage surveys, employees, users, and permissions.

  2. You can see Survey Projects but not Employees or Entity Permissions: You have survey-related permissions but not admin access to user management or employee data.

  3. You can only see the Dashboard: You have dashboard-only access, you can view results for your assigned unit but cannot manage surveys or users. This is the standard Unit Head access level.

  4. The Survey Projects tab is hidden entirely: You have no survey permissions enabled. Contact your Entity Admin to request appropriate access.

What your dashboard tells you

  • If you can see results for the whole organisation, you have 'View all respondents data' permission.
  • If you can only see your own team's results, you have 'View own team's data' permission.
  • If the Hotspots tab is visible, you have been granted access to that specific dashboard feature.

How to confirm with your Entity Admin

The most reliable way to confirm your exact permissions is to ask your Entity Admin to check the Entity & Employee Permissions and Survey Permissions tabs for your account. They can see exactly which permissions have been enabled for your role and update them if needed.

💡 Good to know:  If you have been assigned multiple roles in EngageRocket, you inherit the combined permissions of all roles. The highest permission from any of your assigned roles will apply.

Something not working?
  • I can see a tab but cannot perform actions within it — you likely have View permission but not Edit permission for that area. Ask your Entity Admin to check whether you need the Edit version of that permission.
  • I had access to something before but it has disappeared — your role may have been updated or removed. Check with your Entity Admin.
