ACT - Survey Action Planning FAQ

A guide to understanding, navigating, and getting the most out of the ACT action planning features

Getting survey results is only half the battle. Knowing what to do with them and making sure it actually happens is where many teams get stuck. The ACT feature is designed to solve exactly that, giving you and your managers a structured way to turn feedback into focused, trackable action.

This guide covers the most common questions about how the ACT works, from understanding your dimension scores to creating and managing action plans.

ACT Overview

Questions Answer
What is ACT? ACT feature bridges the gap between survey insights and real-world impact. It provides a structured framework within the EngageRocket platform to help you and your managers identify the most critical areas of focus from your survey results, discover curated science-backed ideas for action, and document and track your commitments to ensure progress and accountability.
What are the two core features of ACT? ACT has two interconnected features. Dimensions & Action Suggestions helps you identify your team's biggest strengths and areas for improvement, and provides a library of expert-curated ideas to guide your next steps. Action Plans is your dedicated workspace for documenting the specific steps you will take, where you can create actions, assign deadlines, and track progress from start to finish.
The Actions tab is not visible on my dashboard. Why? Access to the Actions tab requires an active ACT subscription. If the tab is not visible, please contact your Customer Success Manager to confirm the feature has been enabled for your account. Once enabled, the Actions tab will appear on the main dashboard for all users with the appropriate permissions.
How do I access ACT? Click on the Actions tab in your main survey dashboard. From there you can view your Dimensions & Action Suggestions and manage your Action Plans.

Dimensions & Action Suggestions

Questions Answer
What are Dimensions & Action Suggestions? Dimensions & Action Suggestions is the feature that automatically analyses your survey results to answer two critical questions: where is your team excelling, and where do you have the greatest opportunity to improve? Based on this analysis, the platform provides a list of tailored ideas and best practices curated by the EngageRocket People Science team to help you take meaningful action.
What is the "Top dimension to improve"? This is your biggest opportunity area — the dimension where focused effort is identified by the platform as likely to make the most significant positive impact on your team's results.
What is the "Top dimension to celebrate"? This is your team's or organisation's greatest strength — a key area to recognise, celebrate, and understand in terms of what is driving its success.
What does the team favorability score show? The team favorability score is the aggregated score for a given dimension, based on the responses from the units you have selected. It reflects how favourably your team responded to questions within that dimension.
What does the "Change from previous survey" indicator mean? This is a visual indicator showing whether a dimension's score has improved (green ↑), declined (red ↓), or stayed the same (grey 0%) compared to the last survey in the same project. It helps you track progress over time at a glance.
How are action suggestions organised? Suggestions are grouped under the dimensions they relate to and are automatically sorted to show suggestions for your weakest dimensions first, helping you prioritise the most critical areas. Each suggestion is developed by the EngageRocket People Science team to provide actionable and effective next steps.
I am an Admin. What does the "Viewing as" dropdown control? The "Viewing as" dropdown lets you toggle between two perspectives. Viewing as Admin shows suggestions based on the overall organisation's results or any specific group you filter to, giving you a high-level strategic view. Viewing as Unit Head filters suggestions to show what is most relevant for a specific team, allowing managers to get targeted ideas they can implement directly with their people.

Action Plans

Questions Answer
What are Action Plans? Action Plans are your dedicated workspace for turning survey insights into concrete commitments. The feature allows you and your managers to document, manage, and track the specific follow-up steps you will take in response to employee feedback, creating visibility and accountability across the team.
How do I create an action plan from an existing suggestion? In the Action Suggestions list, find a relevant idea and click "Add to action plan." The system will automatically pre-fill the title and description for you. Review the details, set an optional deadline, and save.
How do I create a custom action plan from scratch? In the Action Plan section, click "Add custom action." This opens a blank form where you can enter your own title, description, and deadline. This method is ideal for actions that are specific to your team's unique situation or feedback.
What information is shown on each action plan card? Each action plan card displays the action title, a description of what the action involves, and an optional deadline. You can click the three-dot menu on the card to edit or delete the action, and click "Mark as completed" when the action is done.
What happens when I mark an action plan as completed? The action will automatically move to the Completed tab, creating a clear record of your team's accomplishments.
I created an action plan but now I cannot find it. What happened? Action Plans are tied to the specific filter context — such as the unit, survey, or period — that was active when you created them. For example, if you created a plan while the Sales Department filter was selected, that plan will only be visible when the Sales Department is selected in the filters. Switch to the correct filter context to locate your plan.

Permissions & User Roles

Questions Answer
Where are ACT permissions managed? Permissions for the ACT are managed through the Entity Permissions page, under the Survey Permissions tab.
What is the difference between "View all action plans" and "View own action plans"? View all action plans is designed for Admins and HR leaders. It grants access to see all action suggestions and action plans across the entire organisation, providing a strategic company-wide overview. View own action plans is designed for Managers and Team Leaders. It limits access to action suggestions and action plans for their specific team only, empowering managers with relevant information without exposing other teams' data.
Can I give a user permission to edit action plans rather than just view them? Yes. Within each permission level, you can specify whether a user can only view action plans or if they have Edit permissions, which allow them to create, update, and delete action plans.
